The Hinda Institute ב"ה Spring 2015 / 5775 Rabbi Binyomin Scheiman, spiritual advisor 9401 Margail, Des Plaines, IL. 60016 📞 (847) 334-1770 📥 (847) 296-1823 🔿 [email protected] 🌎 www.hindahelps.com fax Rabbi Scheiman has continued speaking throughout the area and beyond to spread awareness of the vital work of the HINDA Institute. Pesach Report Pesach is a holiday that touches the hearts and minds of prisoners. The story of freedom and redemption is something that each inmate is able to personally relate to. In order to facilitate the proper observance of the holiday, Rabbi Scheiman spent hours on the road before Pesach with his son Leibel delivering food and holiday supplies to inmates throughout the State. In addition to the deliveries, the two spent time visiting the prisoners and made sure that everyone was prepared for the holiday. It seems like this year there were no problems with either the food or services. The logistics of all the arrangements takes hours of work. Each prison needs to be contacted to find out how many Jewish inmates there are, the frozen meals need to be brought to IDOC Industry to redistribute, and each inmate has to receive matza and extra food. Some prisoners are not sure how to conduct a Seder, so Rabbi Scheiman needs to spend time explaining the meaning and significance of the Seder plate. As you can see from the letters received from prisoners (inside left), this work is much appreciated and life-changing. Thank you very much for the fresh fruit, that was a true blessing. It is hard for people out there to see the things that they do as every day activities are held special to those that they have been taken from …I know that once released from this confinement, under your guidance and supervision I will be able to be a better servant to G-d… Tell Laibel and Mendel hi for me. You have really done a great job with Mendel. He is a very good Rabbi and I look forward to his next visit with us.” “I wanted to take a moment to let you know that our Passover celebration and our Seder meals have really turned out to be a moving experience. None of this would have been possible without your hard work and dedication and the charitable mitzvahs of the Hinda Institute. The previous logo was focused on the inmate; the new logo shows the expanded services that the Hinda Institute now offers. The entire family can receive help and support from the Hinda Institute. Attention is now being paid to the far reaching effects that having an incarcerated family member can have on the family. The work of Rabbi Chaim and Chaya Mushka Scheiman with families and recently released inmates is only a small part of the future of the Hinda Institute. The logo was designed by Lina Tuv of Jerusalem, Israel. Because she knows and appreciates the work of the Hinda Institute, her work was donated. Whether or not you are incarcerated, you still deserve to practice Judaism! Hinda Helps is proud to be your resource for whatever Jewish materials and information you need. Hinda Helps h! Stay in touc Southern Division Rabbi Mendel and Yochi Scheiman have been busy with their work for Hinda Helps in Carbondale. After Rabbi B. Scheiman’s lecture at SIU on February 24, they had two events to benefit Jewish prisoners. On February 28, they sponsored a book drive and students came to write letters and holiday cards for Purim. They sent the books and cards to Jewish inmates. On March 22, students came and created Pesach holiday cards and sent them to over forty inmates. The volunteers received many letters back thanking them for the books and cards. The letters said how much it means to the inmates that someone is thinking of them, especially around the holidays. These programs were in addition to the regular visits that Rabbi Mendel and Yochi do on a regular basis.
